A Detective Branch (DB) team – operating under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) – arrested former minister of social welfare Dr Dipu Moni from the city’s Baridhara DOHS area on Monday evening.
On condition of anonymity, a DB official told Amader Shomoy, “Dipu Moni will now be taken to the DB office on Minto Road.”
According to DMP sources, a murder case has been filed against Dipu Moni in Chandpur over deaths during Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon protests.
There are more cases against her. As she was a high-ranking official of the Hasina government, she would be shown arrested in a Dhaka murder case.
After the Awami League government came to power in 2008, Dipu Moni was initially appointed the foreign minister, then the education minister and finally the social welfare minister. There are allegations of corruption against her relatives in Chandpur.
Dipu Moni went into hiding after Sheikh Hasina's government was overthrown on August 5. She was arrested from a relative's home in Baridhara DOHS.
