Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Friday underscored the need for practising objective journalism to take the country forward.
"You (journalists) should focus on objectivity and impartiality in practising journalism," she said while addressing a discussion organized by Chandpur press club as the chief guest.
Pointing to the journalists, the minister said that the history of journalists in Chandpur is very old and enriched.
Many newspapers, published from Chandpur, managed to maintain their quality from the beginning, she added.
"I have a deep relationship with the world of journalism," Dipu Moni said, adding many talented journalists have been created holding my father's hand.
"Chandpur Press Club has honoured me, by making me its lifetime member," she said.
"Nowadays, journalism has a very broad range to cover as it is not limited to just newspapers. Online and electronic media have come a long way," she continued.
Dipu Moni said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman worked for the welfare of the journalists.
Following his footsteps, Bangabandhu's worthy daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has formed Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust for the journalists.
Chandpur-5 Constituency Lawmaker Major (Retd) Rafiqul Islam, Bir Uttam, also addressed the discussion, among others.
