A discussion was held at the Ban Bhanban (Forest Office) in Dhaka on Sunday marking World Wetlands Day 2024.
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury was set to be the chief guest at the event.
Chaired by Chief Forest Conservator Md Amir Hosain Chowdhury, the ministry’s Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed, Department of Environment (DoE) Director General (DG) Dr Abdul Hamid and Bangladesh Haor and Wetlands Development Directorate (DG) Md Aktaruzzaman were scheduled to be special guests at the event.
Bangladesh Bird Club Founder Enam Ul Haque and Prokriti O Jibon Foundation Chairman Muqeed Majumdar Babu, among others, were set to speak on the occasion.
Observed annually on February 2, World Wetlands Day aims to raise global awareness about the vital role of wetlands for people and the planet. In every corner of the world, human beings have depended on wetlands for centuries, drawing sustenance, inspiration and resilience from these important environments, according to Unesco.
This year’s theme: ‘Wetlands and Human Wellbeing' highlights the linkages between people, culture and nature.
