DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has tested positive for Covid-19, said additional deputy commissioner of police (media & PR division) of DMP.
The DMP Commissioner was admitted to Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital on March 6 as he fell sick. Later he was found positive for Covid-19 in a medical test.
However, he is now doing well and he also sought doa from the people of the country for his early recovery.
Bangladesh saw a rise in its daily Covid-19 in cases in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning as the country registered 912 new cases.
Thirteen Coronavirus-related deaths and 912 new cases were reported during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With the latest figure, the Covid-19 fatalities climbed to 8,489 and total infections to 552,087, the DGHS said in a handout.
Besides, it said, 1,229 people recovered from the virus infections during the period. So far, 505,349 patients (91.46 per cent) have recovered.
Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.
Meanwhile, the daily infection rate jumped to 5.13 per cent from 4.98 per cent on Monday. But the mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.54 per cent for the past few weeks, the DGHS said.
Authorities have so far tested 4,180,938 samples, including 17,973 in the past 24 hours.
