Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Monday filed seven cases against owners of buildings and installations in the city and fined them Tk 76,000, after finding Aedes mosquito larvae in and around their establishments.
The city corporation launched the combing operation for the third day on Monday to protect the city dwellers from dengue.
A total of 1,349 houses, institutions, installations, buildings under construction and abandoned places came under inspection during the drives in the city’s Uttara, Mirpur-7, Mirpur-2, Mirpur-10, Mohakhali, Baridhara, and Karwan Bazar, and Mohammadpur areas, said a press release.
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam and DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam inspected the combing operation in Mohakhali and Baridhara.
The minister said it was very unfortunate that owners of under construction buildings are showing negligence despite repeated warnings.
“Since they are threatening people's lives, I have ordered strict legal action against them,” he added.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul said it is the time to humiliate the owners socially.
DNCC has imposed a total fine of Tk2,38,300 in different drives since May 10, said the release, adding that the combing operation to control Aedes mosquitoes would continue.
