Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is committed to promoting road safety and building a sustainable travel system in Dhaka, said DNCC Mayol Atiqul Islam.
“Bangladesh is economically raising, so mobility increases in daily life. Deaths and injuries in road accidents affect person and family and also impact productivity and economy,” he said while addressing an event observing the “7th United Nations Global Road Safety Week” with the theme “Sustainable Transport", read a press release issued on Monday.
“DNCC understands the importance of road safety and will create more pedestrian-friendly streets, and provide better infrastructure for public transportation and cycling. We have to move forward to ensuring sustainable modes of transportation.”
"We cannot achieve this alone. Hence, we need the support and cooperation of all citizens to create a more sustainable and safe transportation system," Atiqul added.
Meanwhile, Atiqul also instructed the city dwellers to wear helmets, fasten seat belts and avoid reckless driving in urban areas, respecting the rights of pedestrians and cyclists.
