Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md Atiqul Islam said DNCC is going to generate electricity from waste for the first time in Bangladesh.

He made the statement while speaking as the special guest at the signing ceremony of an agreement on “power generation from waste” at Pan Pacific Sonargaon in Dhaka on Wednesday morning.

DNCC has allocated 30 acres of land in the Aminbazar area of Dhaka for the power generation project from waste, he added.

The project with a capacity of 42.5 MW will use a total of 3,000 tons of solid waste per day, said the DNCC mayor.

The use of solid waste from the city as a raw material in the project would play a helpful role in the city's waste management as well as in maintaining a healthy environment, he added.

Two agreements were signed between DNCC and China Machinery Engineering Corporation in this regard.

Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operative Md Tazul Islam and State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid were present on the occasion as chief and special guests.
