Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has announced a budget of Tk 4,506.75 crore for 2020-2021 fiscal year. At the same time, revised budget of Tk 2,608.60 crore for 2019-2020 fiscal year was also approved.
The budget was placed at DNCC meeting held at a community centre in Mirpur on Monday (July 20). DNCC mayor Md Atiqul Islam chaired the meeting with the presence of councillors.
The mayor said development expenditure has been given priority by limiting revenue expenditure in this budget. Importance has been given to mosquito problem control, waste management and development of expanded new wards.
The total revenue expenditure has been fixed at Tk 619.85 crore. Of this, Tk 70 crore has been earmarked for 'Mosquito Control Activities' and Tk 100 crore for waste management.
In the 2019-20 fiscal year, the revenue target was set at Tk 1,106.40 crore. However, in the revised budget, it has been fixed at Tk 642.40 crore.
The mayor said, “The target of total revenue collection was not achieved as per the target in 2019-20 fiscal year. Revenue collection target for the fiscal year 2020-21 has been set at Tk 961.65 crore. Other than revenue collection, 'other income' has been targeted at Tk 12 crore, ‘government grant’ at Tk 150 crore and 'government and foreign aided projects' at Tk 3,010.85 crore."
Mayor Atiqul Islam urged the ward councillors on collection of holding tax. Furthermore, he urged to plant 1,000 trees in each ward during the current monsoon season.
