Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in collaboration with Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday launched the "DNCC Smart Parking” mobile app to revolutionise the country’s parking system.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal inaugurated the app in a program held at the DNCC head office in Dhaka’s Gulshan-2.

While speaking at the event, Asaduzzaman said,” The service is provided through Public Private Partnership (PPP) and this is one of the initiatives to build smart Bangladesh.”

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam Islam presided over the inauguration ceremony while Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was the chief guest.

DNCC Chief Executive Officer Selim Reza, in his speech, said,” This is an AI-based parking system which our control centre will control.”

Meanwhile, DNCC Chief Engineer Brig Gen Muhammad Amirul Islam showed a presentation describing the process of the parking system.

Amirul said, “The app will cover 272 parking spots across eight different roads in the Gulshan area. It will be fully digital payment-based. So, Point of Sale (POS) machines will be installed at the parking locations will facilitate payment processing.

“For those who do not have bank cards or mobile banking accounts, the authorities will issue parking cards, from which parking charges will be deducted,” he said adding that you just need to scan the QR code to use the app as it is available for both android and IOS. If anyone faces any issues or is unable to use it, our warden will be standing at every parking spot for service.

The app has been developed to tackle parking issues. It will enable users to make hourly payments for roadside parking, along with providing real-time updates on available parking spaces nearby.

“The parking charge will be Tk 50 for the first two hours and customers can extend it 1 more hour with an extra Tk 50, which means 3 hours of parking will cost Tk 100, ” said DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam Islam.

“However, per hour will be charged Tk 100 after 3 hours of parking. Gradually, the service will be available for other parts of DNCC.”

DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Md Mustafizur Rahman, senior secretary of the Public Security Division of the Home Ministry, Mohammad Ali Arafat, MP of Dhaka-17 constituency were also present the program as special guest.
