DNCRP fines 4 egg wholesalers Tk 32,000

The National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate (DNCRP) has imposed fines on three wholesale traders for various offenses, which include failing to mention the price and total amount of eggs in the cash memo, lacking a valid cash memo, and not displaying an accurate price list for eggs despite sourcing them from different farms.

The businesses that faced penalties are M/s Milon Enterprises, M/s Zahirul Islam Traders, and M/s Mustafiz Traders. The three businesses faced a total fine of Tk 30,000 during an inspection at Kaptan Bazar in the capital on Saturday.

Recently, there was an abrupt surge in egg prices within the wholesale and retail market. The cost escalated by Tk 15-20 per dozen, reaching Tk 165-180 per dozen from the previous range of Tk 150-160 per dozen. The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) reported a 10 per cent increase in egg prices within a single week.

To monitor egg prices, three teams from the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate conducted raids across various markets within the Dhaka metropolitan area on Saturday. The focus of this operation was to verify the wholesale selling price and purchasing price of large eggs in Dhaka city.

Abdul Jabbar Mandal, assistant director of the directorate's Dhaka District Office, and Md Shariful Islam, assistant director of its head office, led the raid at Kaptan Bazar in Dhaka city.

Additionally, in an operation conducted by assistant director of Dhaka divisional office Magfur Rahman in Mohammadpur Townhall Bazar area, two traders were fined Tk 2000 for their non-compliance.
