Dr Rajib Bhatachrya, the physician who sustained severe burn injuries from a fire incident that broke out at his flat in the capital from hand sanitizer coming close to a mosquito coil, died Tuesday morning. He was 37.
He breathed his last around 8 am Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, Dr Samanta Lal Sen, chief coordinator of the institute, confirmed the media.
Dr Rajib's wife Dr Anusha Bhattacharya, who also suffered from burn injuries in the incident on July 22, is still receiving treatment at the same hospital, Dr Sen added.
According to family sources, the fire erupted when a bottle of sand sanitizer came in contact with a mosquito coil, leaving Dr Rajib injured.
His wife, 32, also received injures as she came to rescue him.
Doctor Partho Shangkar Paul, resident medical officer of the unit, said Rajib sustained 87 per cent burn injuries and his wife 20 per cent.
