Dr Khondaker Showkat Hossain has been appointed as acting editor of The Business Post. He will now serve in the position instead of the previous editor Mohammad Golam Sarwar.
As a member of the BCS administration cadre, Dr Hossain joined the civil service on June 19, 1983, and has served in a number of important positions in the Bangladesh government. He is also the chief advisor of the Unique Group.
He has a brilliant professional career, with his previous positions including secretary at the Ministry of Housing and Public Works; secretary at the Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment, and Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka.
Khondaker Showkat also served the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Union and UNICEF in different capacities.
Hailing from Mirzapur in Tangail, Showkat completed his bachelor’s and master’s from Dhaka University. He also obtained PhD from the university. He also carried out higher studies in development economics at Bradford University in the UK.
Khondaker Showkat was also a member of the syndicates of Jahangirnagar University and Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology.
He is also the founder chairman of the governing body of Dr Ayesha-Razia High School and College in Tangail.
He has mentionable contributions in various social sectors including education, social welfare, empowerment of disadvantaged populations, etc.
