A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to Grameen Telecom Chairman Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus and three others in a case filed over violating labour law.

The Dhaka Third Labour Court passed the order after the four accused surrendered before the court.

The accused — Dr Yunus, Grameen Telecom Managing Director Ashraful Hasan, directors Nurjahan Begum and Md Shahjahan — obtained the bail on Tk 10,000 bond, confirmed Jamal Uddin, a court assistant.

Earlier, Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) Inspector SM Arifuzzaman filed the case on September 9.

The court, however, issued summons to the four to appear before it by October 12.

According to the case documents, a team of DIFE went on an inspection to Grameen Telecom and found the violations of labour laws, such as, not regularising 101 staff, not establishing a welfare fund for the labourers, among others.
