Prof Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal and Prof Haseena Khan have accepted responsibility for plagiarism that was found in the science textbook for Class-7, after the incident drew widespread criticism from different quarters across the country.

The duo issued a statement on Monday admitting that some passages were actually direct translations of contents taken from the National Geography Educational website.

Expressing sadness and disappointment over the incident, they said an article published at a Bangla daily over the allegation had drawn their attention.

In the statement, they said, “We have determined that the allegation is true after comparing the textbook’s passages with the website’s contents.”

Even though they were not the writers of the mentioned parts, they are still responsible as the editors of the textbook, and the necessary revision will be brought to the next edition of that book.

The experimental edition was published this year and there is lots of scope for revision and editing of the book from next academic year.

“Apart from the aforementioned mistake, we will also accept any other reasonable opinion on the textbook, and bring the necessary revisions next time,” they added.
