Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder, trusty and freedom fighter Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury will be laid to eternal rest at the kendra grounds, after a namaz-e-janaza following Jummah prayers on Friday.
Dr Zafrullah’s son Barish Chowdhury made the disclosure on Thursday at the Central Shaheed Minar, where people from all walks to life paid final tribute to the doctor of the people.
“Dr Zafrullah had worked in Savar for decades. He had launched numerous healthcare initiatives for the people of Bangladesh, especially the underprivileged and marginalised. So we have decided to pay our final tribute to him in Savar, and bury him there.
Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury was given a guard of honour by the state at the Central Shaheed Minar at around 12:30pm on Thursday. His body was taken to the Shaheed Minar from the mortuary of BIRDEM around 10:00am, and People from all walks of life paid their last respects.
Dr Zafrullah’s first namaz-e-janaza was held at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city around 2:30pm. His body will be taken to Savar’s Gono Bishwabidyalay campus at 10am on Friday. After Jummah prayers, the second namaz-e-janaza will be held on the university campus.
The Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder passed away on Tuesday night. He was 81. He breathed his last at around 11 pm at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in Dhaka.
