DSA case hearing against Murad wraps up

Dhaka Cyber Tribunal on Monday concluded recording of statements of the witnesses in a case filed against former state minister for information and broadcasting Murad Hasan and Mohammad Mohiuddin Helal alias Nahid under the Digital Security Act (DSA).

Judge Shams Jaglul Hossain presided over the hearing at around 11:15am on Monday. He recorded the statement of the plaintiff Advocate Omar Faruk

The tribunal will pass an order later on whether to take cognisance of the case or not.

Advocate Omar Faruk, secretary of Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, filed the petition with Dhaka Cyber Tribunal on Sunday.

Murad was accused of making indecent remark to Jaima Rahman and daughter of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman in a live interview on social media. The other accused in the case, Nahid, was the host of the interview.

On Tuesday last, Murad Hassan quit the cabinet following the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for his offensive and indecent remarks on women.

Murad had been under increasing criticism by various quarters for his disrespectful remarks on women in an interview on social media. Several audios and videos containing indecent remarks by Murad Hassan also went viral on social media.
