DSCC halts overhead internet, TV cable removal drive till Nov

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Sunday paused its drive to remove overheard internet and satellite television cables until November 30.

It also asked internet service providers to lay cables underground by then to continue providing services.

The decision was made in a meeting between DSCC Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and the leaders of Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) and Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB) on Sunday.

After the meeting, DSCC mayor revealed the decision to the media, adding that internet and cable TV providers agreed to move the cables underground at their own expense and immediately begin removing the hanging ones.

DSCC has also given the service providers permission to dig its roads to facilitate quick the transfer of overhead wires underground, Taposh said. The city corporation will then repair the roads at its own expense and will also help remove the rubbish.

ISPAB President MA Hakim said they will begin moving the cables today. "I hope we will be done by November," he added.
