Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has served a legal notice on The Daily Star, seeking Tk 100 crore in compensation for defaming him.

Confirming the matter to the newsmen, Taposh's lawyer Barrister Mejbahur Rahman said the notice was sent via registry post on June 5 to The Daily Star editor and publisher Mahfuz Anam, its executive editor Syed Ashfaqul Haque and sub-editor Naziba Basher.

"They have been asked to remove the article from online within 24 hours and publish the statement. We have demanded Tk 100 crore as compensation. We have given them seven days," Barrister Rahman said.

The mayor's lawyer further said, in the article, the name of Dhaka South City Corporation was distorted as 'Dhoka South Town Corporation' and even the name of the mayor was distorted too.

"The mayor has directed me to take legal action after seeing the article and after that I sent the notice," he added.
