A female student of Dhaka University (DU) was killed as a covered van hit her in Vatara-Natun Bazar area of the capital city Monday evening.
The deceased was identified as Radiya Neeti, 22.
Hailed from Shibchar upazila of Madaripur, she lived with her family in Principal Road area of Natun Bazar and was in 3rd year at DU’s Fine Arts department.
Her younger sister Sadia Reza Tonny told the media that a covered van hit Neeti while she was crossing a road in Natun Bazar, leaving her critically injured, after 7pm.
Police rushed her to Kurmitola General Hospital where the physicians pronounced her dead.
The covered van was seized and its driver was nabbed. The body was sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy, said Vatara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Muktaruzzaman.
