A Dhaka court has placed three leaders of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad’s (Bangladesh Students’ Rights Council) each on a 2-day remand in a case over rape and collaborating the rape of a Dhaka University student.
Rejecting their bail plea, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahidul Islam passed the remand order on Thursday after the investigation officer sought 5 days' remand for each of them.
The accused are - Md Saiful Islam, joint convener of the Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, Mohammad Nazmul Huda, vice-president of Dhaka University (DU) branch of the council and Nazmul Hasan Shohag.
Earlier on October 15, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasin Ahsan Chowdhury ordered to send Saiful Islam and Mohammad Nazmul Huda to jail in the case rejecting their bail plea. They were produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on that day after the end of a two-day remand.
Earlier on October 12, the two accused were remanded for two days each over allegedly raping the DU student in the case filed on September 20.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan granted the remand after DB Inspector Wahiduzzaman produced them before the court and sought seven days to interrogate the suspects.
Former Ducsu vice-president Nurul Haque Nur, Hasan, Nazmul Hasan Sohag and Saiful – joint conveners of the Parishad, its Vice-President Nazmul and DU student Abdullah Hil Baki were accused in the rape case filed with Lalbagh police station.
Another case was filed with Kotwali police against the six on Sept 21 under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act by the same student.
On October 8, the DU student started a fast-unto-death demanding arrest of Nur and five others in the rape case.
