A Dhaka tribunal has started recording deposition of the witnesses against the lone accused in a case filed over rape of a Dhaka University (DU) student in the capital’s Kurmitola early January.
The victim's father gave his deposition before Nari o Shishu Nirjatan Daman Tribunal 7 Judge Mosammat Qamrunnahar on Sunday. The court also fixed September 21 for the next hearing.
Earlier on 26 August, a Dhaka tribunal framed charges against Majnu, in a case filed over rape of a DU student in the capital.
Judge Mosammat Quamrunnahar of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 framed the charges on Wednesday.
The tribunal also fixed September 9 for recording deposition of witnesses in the case.
During the hearing, Majnu was produced before the court through videoconferencing from Keraniganj Jail. Special Public Prosecutor Afroza Farhana Ahmed read out the charges against the accused.
The same tribunal on August 16 took cognisance of the charges against Majnu and fixed August 26 for the hearing of charge framing.
On March 16, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) submitted the charge-sheet against Majnu.
The DU student was raped in the evening of January 5 when she was walking home from Kurmitola bus stop to Shewra Bazar Railgate. The victim's father filed a case with Cantonment police station the next day, accusing unnamed people.
Majnu gave a confessional statement to a Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate on January 16 after being arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from Shewra Bazar area on January 8.
