DU student's body found in Chankharpul

The hanging body of a former student of Dhaka University was found from a residential building in Dhaka’s Chankharpul area.

The deceased, identified as Masud Al-Mahdi (Apu), was a student of the 2011-12 session at the Mass Communication and Journalism department of the university. He was a resident student of Masterda Surja Sen Hall.

Apu used to share a room with Zahirul Islam. He said he found the door of the room closed from the inside when he came back for lunch at 2:00pm.

“Only his hand could be seen through the gap of the door. I informed the matter to the building’s manager and some other people. Later, we broke down the door and found him hanging from the ceiling fan,” Zahirul told The Business Post.

Later they called 999 and a team of Chawk Bazar Police recovered Apu’s body from his room.

Lalbagh Police Station DC Jasim Uddin Mollah confirmed the matter saying Apu’s roommates suspected he committed suicide.

“However, we have sent the body to the morgue for autopsy after performing an initial investigation. Legal action will be taken based on the autopsy report,” he added.

DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani told The Business Post over the phone that he had learned about the matter from a senior police officer.

"I request the police to take legal action after investigating the matter," he added.
