Shomi Kaiser has resigned from her position as president of the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB).

She submitted her resignation letter to the executive council of e-CAB on the organisation's letterhead on Tuesday, and requested immediate implementation.

E-CAB Senior Vice President Mohammad Sahab Uddin confirmed the matter to The Business Post on Wednesday, saying, “She [Shomi Kaiser] has resigned citing personal reasons.

“In this regard, we will make a decision later after an executive committee meeting. The constitution states that the senior vice president shall serve as the acting president.”

Kaiser’s resignation letter states, “I am resigning from the post of e-CAB president due to my current physical condition and as per my doctor’s advice. I request that my resignation take immediate effect.

“In my absence, the current Executive Committee (EC) of e-CAB will be responsible for continuing the work until the next election.”

The Business Post attempted to reach out to Shomi Kaiser on phone for her comments on the matter, but she did not respond till the filing of this report.

Kaiser was elected as the president of e-CAB in 2018, and then re-elected in 2022 when her panel won the majority in the organisation’s first direct elections. This secured her the presidency for the 2022–24 tenure.

The executive committee election for the 2024–26 tenure was supposed to take place on July 27 where a panel led by Kaiser was competing again. However, the election has been postponed due to the unrest in the country.
