E-com fraud: HC expresses discontent over delay in report submission

The High Court (HC) expressed displeasure as three government bodies failed to submit their report over e-commerce platform’s irregularities on Tuesday.

The three government bodies were Commerce Ministry, National Board of Revenue (NBR) and Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU).

Earlier on September 28, the HC sought information about collection of tax from e-commerce platforms and steps taken against their alleged money laundering.

Court also directed the three government bodies to appear before the HC on November 23 and respond to all the HC queries.

On Tuesday, the HC asked the deputy attorney general Bepul Bagmar to take immediate action after talking to the attorney general in this regard.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Mustafizur Rahman passed the order and said “Why they (BFU and NBR) didn’t respond even after the notice? We will take the matter seriously.”

The court also said, “You talk to the attorney general and inform him of the matter. We will not tolerate this at all.”
