The Criminal Investigation Department of police has arrested the CEO and director of e-commerce platform SPC World Express.
Managing Director and CEO Md Al Amin and Director Sharmin Akter were apprehended from the capital’s Baily Road area on Sunday.
A case has been filed against them in Kolabagan police station under Money Laundering Prevention Act 2012.
The CEO was arrested for embezzling Tk268 crore, in November 2020, according to a CID press release.
The company has a customer base of approximately one crore and had received orders worth Tk 5-6 crore through them in one month, SPC World CEO said during CID interrogation.
The company has received advance payments from buyers by tempting them in various ways. It has bought products from suppliers on credit but do not have enough money to pay.
The other suspected e-commerce sites are Evaly, ringID, Eorange, Dhamaka Shopping, Alesha Mart, Falguni Shop, Sirajganj Shop, 24tkt.com, Adyan Mart, Glitters RST World, Green Bangla E-Commerce, Annex Worldwide, Amarbazar, and Excellent World Agro Food and Consumer.
