The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday cleared a new project involving 123 crore taka to create self-employment opportunities and alleviate poverty by expanding the activities of Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Centre (BITAC), giving importance to women in the training programmes.
ECNEC also approved three revised projects, raising their total cost by 1,536 crore taka.
The approval came from the 11th ECNEC meeting of the current fiscal year, held virtually with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
The Prime Minister and Planning Minister MA Mannan joined the meeting from Ganabhaban through a videoconference, while other ECNEC members were connected from NEC Bhaban.
“Today, four projects were approved at the meeting and the total estimated cost is 1,659.34 crore taka. Among these, one is a new project and three are revised ones,” said MA Mannan at a press briefing.
Of the amount, 740.14 lakh taka will be borne from government funds, while the remaining 919.20 crore taka will come as friendly assistance from the World Bank and KFW Development Bank of Germany, he said.
