Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General (DG) Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui said that the economies of Bangladesh and India will benefit once the Integrated Check Post (ICP) is launched.

Many countries, including Japan, are investing in both sides of the ICP, which will greatly enrich the economies after its launch.

Ashrafuzzaman made the remarks while visiting Khagrachari's Ramgarh BGB memorial, the historical 229-year-old 43rd BGB Battalion, adjacent to the Ramgarh land port and the Bangladesh-India Friendship Bridge (Maitree Setu).

“The way the economic wheels are currently turning under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, it will be stronger and more prosperous in the future,” said the BGB DG.

In response to a question on how the security system will be here, the BGB chief said that the security dimension here will be slightly different. Adequate security measures are being taken.

He also assured that more arrangements will be made in the future as the geo-location of Ramgarh land port is different.

At the same time, the location has the Maitree Setu, and the road here is less than a kilometre from Chittagong Port than in other places. Therefore, the doors of new prosperity of mutual trade will be opened in both countries. “It will be more viable from all sides,” he said.

In response to another question, the DG said, “The 177 BGP members of Myanmar are sheltered in the country. The process of returning them is underway.”

He hopes that they will be repatriated in the same manner as they were earlier.

At this time, the BGB chief distributed various food items, including rice, pulses and sugar, among 250 needy families at the border area within the BGB memorial.

After that, he interacted with the Ramgarh 43rd BGB Battalion members and had Iftar with them. During this time, he provided various campaigns, training, and administrative guidelines.

Additional Director General (Operations and Training) of BGB Headquarters, Region Commander of Chittagong Region, Guimara Sector Commander and Captain of Ramgarh Battalion, and other officials were present during Ashrafuzzaman’s visit.
