The Editors' Council (Shampadak Parishad) has demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in the murder of journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim in Jamalpur.
The council expressed its deep concern over the ongoing insecurity faced by journalists while carrying out their professional duties, the council said in a media statement on Sunday.
According to the statement, the tragic incident involving journalist Nadim highlights the alarming lack of security faced by journalists who strive to report the truth. Such acts of violence and brutality against journalists not only curtail the freedom of speech but also violate fundamental human rights.
Many journalists have been killed in the past and have not been tried yet, the council added.
The Editors' Council also extended its heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family members of Nadim.
Banglanews24.com journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim who was seriously injured in an attack allegedly by some supporters of a UP chairman in the Pathati area of Bakshiganj upazila Wednesday night died at Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital on Thursday.
He worked as Jamalpur correspondent for Banglanews24.com and Bakshiganj upazila correspondent for Ekattor Television. He was also a member of the Jamalpur Press Club.
