Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that this year's Eid journey is comfortable like the previous year despite the pressure of traffic.

"There is pressure of traffic, but no traffic congestion on highways this time," he told reporters at the meeting room of his ministry at the secretariat in Dhaka on Saturday, reports BSS.

Earlier, the minister opened one railway overpass, seven road overpasses and two bridges on Tangail-Rangpur highway from his office.

Quader, also the Awami League (AL) general secretary, said one railway overpass of 550 metres at Tinmatha rail gate in Bogura, 56-metre long Datiya Bridge, 32-metre long Fatki Bridge, 39-metre long Mulibari overpass, 39-metre Panchila overpass, 35-metre Datpur overpass, 158-metre B-block Cangtonment overpass in Bogura, 178-metre Fultola overpass, 30-metre Dhaperhat overpass in Rangpur and 8-metre Mirzapur overpass opened to traffic from Saturday.

He said those overpasses were the Eid gifts of the prime minister to the people.

The minister also inaugurated the activities of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) of all toll plazas on Dhaka-Chattogram national highways.

Replying to a query over recent attacks in hilly areas, Quader said an investigation is going on and everything will be disclosed. The joint drive is going on in those areas and the situation will be under control, he said.

Terming the attacks as distracted incidents, the AL leader said the ethnic group is residing in the Bandarban area, not in Rangamati or Khagrachari.

He hoped that the situation would be under control soon.

Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary ABM Amin Ullah Nuri and senior officials were present in the programme.
