Eid shopping reaches its peak in Ctg in last moment

The last time shopping is going on full swing everywhere in Chattogram port city ahead of Eid ul-Fitr. People from all walks of life are rushing towards all modern and traditional shopping malls even on the footpaths are buying clothes, shoes, cosmetics, ornaments and other necessities for their loved ones as only two days more left before Eid-ul-Fitr.

Shoppers are in a rush to the shopping malls, centres and roadside shops in the city’s New Market, Amin Centre, Mimi Super Market, Reazuddin Bazar, Central Plaza, Oscan City Shopping Complex, Moti Tower, Lucky Plaza, Singapore Market and Zahur Hawkers Market in the city said they were happy so far with the sale of their products, reports BSS.

People of all classes are buying the necessary items as per their choice.

Shop owners told the BSS that sales were showing a peak trend over the last couple of days as people especially, most of the private and public service holders have already received their salaries and Eid bonuses.

As most of the city dwellers will leave the port city for their respective village homes ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, shoppers are in a rush to finish Eid shopping.

While visiting different modern shopping centres and footpaths in the port city today, it was found that salesmen of different markets, footpaths, makeshift sales centres were bustling with shoppers.

Appreciating the government's steps for creating a favourable trade atmosphere during Ramadan, businessmen, market association leaders and shoppers said they are doing good business in a safe and secure environment.

Traders said that although there is Eid shopping throughout the month, at the last moment, there is a huge crowd every time. As time goes on, sales are increasing.

The shoppers hoped that this would continue to be a great sale till the day before Eid.

The last time shopping is going on everywhere. People are buying clothes, shoes, cosmetics, ornaments and other necessities for their loved ones.

Deployment of law enforcers at different strategic points and marketplaces has created a foolproof security arrangement for businessmen as well as shoppers, said traders at different shopping malls.

"We are doing good business this year as people seem to be relieved from sense of insecurity. Even as a businessman, I have not faced any untoward situation during the holy month of Ramadan, said Khurshed Alam, President of the New Market Shop Owners' Association.

He said people with their family members are now coming for shopping even at midnight as the law and order situation has improved remarkably.

"Sales are showing an upward trend since the last couple of days. We are passing a busy time for selling all kinds of clothes, especially cotton ‘Panjabi’ and ‘shalwar’,” said Mohammad Ali, Secretary of Moti Tower Shopping Complex in the city.

Shop owners said local products particularly three-pieces for girls, shoes, sarees with embroidery and stone work, Panjabis, shirts and trousers produced by different local fashion houses are the main centres of attraction to the customers.

According to importers and wholesalers, sarees and cosmetics from India are still dominating the country's Eid market while three pieces, trousers, toys, readymade garments and electronic items from China, Taiwan, Pakistan and Thailand have occupied a good place in the market.

While talking to BSS, most of the shop owners in different shopping complexes, in the city said they were happy so far with the sale of their products.

"We really feel comfort and enjoy the pleasure to be part of the Eid shopping spree as miscreants seem to be driven out of the city,” Mahmudul Hoque, a shopper at Moti Tower, said.
