The government has extended the Eid-ul-Azha holidays by a day, and June 27 (Tuesday) will thus be part of the holiday.

The extra holiday was approved at the weekly cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday.

After the meeting, a responsible source informed the development.

Earlier, the government had extended the holiday by one day last Eid-ul-Fitr as well.

Before the executive order, the Eid holidays was from June 28 to 30 depending on the sighting of the moon. Now, the Eid holidays will start from June 27.

If the holy Eid-ul-Azha falls on June 29, then the holidays will be from June 27 to 30. July 1 is a weekend holiday. So, the government employees will get five consecutive days off.

A meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee is scheduled to be held Monday evening to set the date of the moon sighting of holy month of Zilhaj 1444 Hijri and the date of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.
