Engine drivers of Moyur-2 launch arrested

A team of River Police has arrested the two engine drivers of 'MV Moyur-2', a launch reportedly responsible for the deaths of 34 people in the tragic incident of 'ML Morning Bird' launch capsize in the Buriganga River.

The arrestees were identified as Shipon and Shakil.

They were arrested from Sutrapur area of ​​the capital at 10:30 am on Wednesday, Additional Superintendent of Police Farida Parveen confirmed to The Business Post.

Tipped-off, the river police team carried out a raid in the area and arrested them.

Both Shipon and Shakil were accused in the case filed in South Keraniganj police station in connection to the launch capsize incident which is being investigated by the river police.

Earlier on June 29, the Dhaka-bound 'ML Morning Bird' launch carrying around 150 passengers from Munshiganj sank in the river after being hit by 'Moyur-2' near Shyambazar in the capital’s old town.

Bodies of 34 people were recovered.

Mohammad Shamsul, sub-inspector of Sadarghat River Police Station, filed a case at South Keraniganj Police Station the following day.
 
Earlier, Police arrested a staff of the launch Abdus Salam, the owner of Mayur-2 launch Mosaddeq Hanif Soad and the master of the launch on July 7, July 9 and July 13 respectively.
