Eskaton double murder case: HC denies bail of ex-AL lawmaker's son

The High Court on Wednesday rejected a bail petition of Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of former Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan in connection with a New Eskaton double murder case.

A High Court bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice Sahed Nuruddin passed the rejection order after holding a hearing on the bail petition filed by Bakhtiar Alam Rony.

Deputy Attorney General ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Basar stood in favour of the state while advocate Motaher Hossain Sazu was present in favour of the petition before the court.

On April 13, 2015, Bakhtiar Alam Rony, said to be a drug addict, opened fire on people indiscriminately near Janakantha Bhaban in New Eskaton area from his car, leaving two people -- rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and Janakantha’s auto-rickshaw driver Yakub --injured with bullet wounds.

On April 15, a case was filed with Ramna Police Station against unidentified people in this connection.

On June 1, law enforcement agencies arrested Bakhtiar Alam Rony from his Dhanmondi residence in connection with the firing.

Detective Branch Sub-Inspector Dipak Kumar Das charged Rony on July 21, 2015 after investigating the case.

On July 21, 2015, detectives pressed murder charges against Bakhtiar Alam Rony.

Besides, law enforcement agencies cleared his driver from the charges.
