Controversial e-commerce platform Evaly’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Rassel was released from prison on Monday.

Md Tariqul Islam, the jailer of Dhaka's Kashimpur Central Jail-1, confirmed the news to the media on Tuesday.

“Rassel was imprisoned in multiple cases. He was released from jail Monday afternoon after verifying bail documents in all cases,” Tariqul Islam said.

On September 16, 2021, Rassel and his wife Shamima Nasrin, chairman of the company, were arrested by Rapid Action Battalion in a raid from their home in the capital’s Mohammadpur area, on charges of fraud and embezzlement of hundred crores of taka from customers and sellers.

In the meantime, Evaly has refunded approximately 50 per cent of the Tk 25 crore in advance payments to distressed customers that were trapped in the payment gateway.
