A court in Dhaka on Friday placed Mohammad Rassel, CEO of the controversial e-commerce platform Evaly, and his wife Shamima Nasrin on three-day remand each in a fraud case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqul Islam passed the order after they were produced before the court in the afternoon.

Gulshan police station Sub-Inspector Wahidul Islam, also the investigating officer of the case, sought 10 days to grill the couple under police custody for the sake of investigation.

The court granted three days to the law enforcers for interrogation rejecting the bail pleas of the accused.

Earlier on Thursday, Raid Action Battalion arrested Rassel and Nasrin, also the chairman of the e-commerce platform, from their residence at the capital’s Mohammadpur after a customer filed a fraud case against the duo with Gulshan police station in the morning.

In a press conference on Friday, RAB Director (legal and media wing) Commander Khandaker Al Moin said Rassel, during the primary interrogation, informed that the total liabilities of Evaly are over Tk 1,000 crore.
