Mahbub Kabir, managing director of controversial e-commerce platform Evaly, has been sent to retirement at the age of 59.

A notification from the Ministry of Public Administration confirmed the matter on Tuesday.

"The retirement notification was issued today (Tuesday). My last working day will be December 14. But will be associated with Evaly even after that, as per the order of the High Court,” Mahbub Kabir said in a Facebook post after receiving the notice from the ministry.

On October 18, a five-member interim board was set up by the High Court to manage Evaly and Mahbub was made the managing director.

Mahbub was the former additional secretary in the Ministry of Railways. He took several initiatives to eliminate irregularities in the railway department. He also proposed to form a wing with 10 honest officials to eradicate corruption in the country.

On July 29, 2020, Mahbub threw a challenge and told the media that the wing would eradicate corruption in all sectors of the country within three months, A week later, he was made officer on special duty by the Ministry of Public Administration. A departmental case was also been filed against him in this regard.

Mahbub also served as an acting chairman of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority. At that time, he took steps against food adulteration and various irregularities.
