The government has taken every measure for the safe departure of the Bangladeshi citizens stranded in Afghanistan, a foreign ministry press release said Sunday.
“The government of Bangladesh is in regular touch with Bangladesh nationals who are stranded in Afghanistan and has taken every measure for their safe and orderly departure. So far, the government has facilitated the process of return of around 20 of them,” it read.
Mentioning that Bangladesh was closely observing the situation in Afghanistan, the release said Bangladesh urged all concerned to ensure the safety and security of the Afghan people as well as foreign nationals in Afghanistan.
“Bangladesh expresses deepest condolences to the bereaved families who lost their near and dear ones at the bomb attack near Kabul Airport on 26 August 2021 and prays for early recovery of the injured,” it added.
“While expressing appreciation to all concerned for facilitating the safe departure of all foreigners including Bangladesh nationals, Bangladesh would like to see a continuation of the return process of the remaining foreign nationals. It is expected that the development workers can return to Afghanistan once conducive environment is restored,” the ministry release said.
Bangladesh in the statement also called for all concerned to exercise maximum restraint during this challenging time and hoped for the return of normalcy and restoration of peace in Afghanistan soon.
Earlier, a group of 22 Bangladesh and Thai nationals arrived in Dhaka from Thailand early Saturday by a special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
The Biman Bangladesh flight (BG 4089) carrying the passengers landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:30am.
Bangladesh Embassy in Bangkok facilitated the repatriation process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.
