Pradip Kumar Das, withdrawn officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf police station, has been arrested from Chattogram after he surrendered to police in a case over the murder of Army Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Md Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the matter to The Business Post.

He said OC Pradip came to Chattogram Divisional Police Hospital on Thursday afternoon to surrender himself. Currently, he is being taken to Cox's Bazar under police custody.

He will later be handed over to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), added CMP commissioner.

"As he is an accused in a case filed in Cox's Bazar, he will officially surrender at the judicial court there," Md Mahbubur Rahman said.

OC Pradip may be produced before Cox's Bazar court in the evening, CMP sources said.

Earlier, Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Teknaf on Wednesday issued arrest warrants against nine people on Wednesday night, including Teknaf Model Police Station OC Pradip Kumar Das, in a case over the killing of the retired army officer in police firing on July 31.

The case filed in the Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court seeking a trial for the murder of Major (retd) Sinha was filed as a regular case at the Teknaf Model Police Station around 10:30 pm on Wednesday, police sources said.

As soon as the case was filed, arrest warrants were issued against all the accused in the case.

The accused are - OC Pradip Kumar Das, who was withdrawn from Teknaf Police Station, Inspector Liakat Ali, who was withdrawn from Baharchhara Shamlapur Police Investigation Center, Sub-Inspector (SI) Nandalal Rakshit, SI Tutul, Assistant Sub-Inspector Liton Miah, Constable Safanur Karim, Constable Kamal Hossain, Constable Abdullah Al Mamun and Constable Md Mostafa.

The accused against whom arrest warrants were issued have already been withdrawn from their previous workplaces and are now attached to the police line.

Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, elder sister of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan, filed the case on Wednesday morning.
