Ex BB deputy governor Ibrahim Khaled passes away

Former deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank and noted economist Khondkar Ibrahim Khaled has passed away at a hospital in the capital city early Wednesday.

He breathed his last around 5:40am while on life support at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital.

His son Khondkar Sayeed confirmed the matter to the media.

Khondkar Ibrahim Khaled was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the BSMMU hospital on Sunday with coronavirus. He was also diagnosed with various old-age complications.

Earlier, the deputy governor of the central bank was admitted to Bangladesh Specialized Hospital on February 1 after his Covid-19 test report came out positive.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of the country’s noted economist and former deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank Khondkar Ibrahim Khaled.

In a condolence message, the President said the people of this country will always remember the talent and skill left by Khandaker Ibrahim Khaled for the smooth development of the banking sector.

The head of the state prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

In a separate message of condolence, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “The contribution of Khondkar Ibrahim Khaled to flourishing the country’s banking sector will be remembered.”
