The police have arrested the former minister of textiles and jute, and Gazi Group chairman Golam Dastgir Gazi from his home in the city’s Shantinagar area on Saturday night. However, it is not yet confirmed in which case he was arrested.
After Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country on August 5, students and citizens held a joyous procession in Rupganj. Roman Mia, a class 10 student, was killed in an attack on that rally.
Over the incident, a murder case was filed on August 21 accusing 45 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former lawmaker Golam Dastgir Gazi, his son Golam Mortuza Pappa Gazi and 60 others.
Rina, aunt of deceased Roman, filed the case with Rupganj police station.
On August 5, Sheikh Hasina's resignation ended her 15-and-a-half-year rule. She is currently staying in India.
After her government fell, more than half a hundred murder cases have been registered accusing Hasina, as well as her former ministers, state ministers, Awami League leaders, and activists.
