Former health minister and Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim’s health condition has deteriorated after he suffered a brain stroke Friday (today) morning while undergoing treatment for coronavirus at a Dhaka hospital.

Tanvir Shakil Joy, Nasim's son and former lawmaker, confirmed the matter to The Business Post.

He is now undergoing an emergency surgery at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital, added Joy wishing blessings for his father.

He said, "My father was supposed to be taken to the cabin today as his condition had been improving till last night. The condition worsened after he suffered a sudden brain stroke early today.”

Earlier on June 1, Mohammad Nasim tested positive for coronavirus after being admitted to the private hospital in the capital's Shyamoli area, with blood pressure problems and physical weakness. He has been undergoing treatment at the hospital since then.

Mohammad Nasim is a presidium member of the Awami League. He is also the spokesperson of 14 Awami League-led parties. After the 2014 parliamentary election, Mohammad Nasim became the health minister of the Awami League government. Earlier, he served in several ministries during the 1996-2001 Awami League government.
