A court on Sunday sent former director (Border) of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) Commodore Monirul Islam to jail rejecting a bail petition.

The investigative Officer (IO) of the case produced Monirul, who was arrested in a case filed over the killing of a teenager Bahadur Hossain Moni-in the capital during the anti-discrimination movement, before the court after the expiry of a 3-day remand and appealed to send him to a jail.

After hearing arguments from both sides, Magistrate Md Mosharraf Hossain rejected the bail petition and sent him to jail, reports BSS.

Earlier, former NSI director Monirul Islam was arrested from the Kotwali police station area on October 9. On October 10, a Dhaka court placed him on a three-day remand after a hearing.

According to the case, Bahadur Hossain Moni was shot dead while he was crossing the street in front of Shahzadpur Primary School at Pragati Sarani under Gulshan Police Station on July 19 during the anti-discrimination movement.

Later, his father Abu Zafar received a mobile phone call from an unknown person and got information that a teenager was laid on the road after receiving a bullet. Abu Zafar along with locals took him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Later, Abu Zafar filed a case at Gulshan Police Station on September 30.
