Anti-Corruption Commission today (Monday) showed former officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf police station Pradeep Kumar Das arrested over his alleged possession of illegal wealth and involvement in money laundering.

Pradeep currently remains in custody over the killing of retired Army major Sinha Md Rashed Khan.

Earlier in the day, Pradeep Kumar Das was taken to Chattogram Metropolitan Judge's court at around 1pm when his lawyer filed a bail plea. After hearing arguments of both sides, the judge did not accept the bail petition and ordered to send him to jail.

The court also fixed September 20 for the next hearing on Pradeep's bail prayer.

Public prosecutor advocate Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury confirmed the matter to The Business Post.

The ACC on August 23 filed a case against Pradeep Kumar Das and his wife Chumki over acquiring illegal wealth worth 4 crore taka.

The ACC launched an investigation in 2018 against Pradeep's alleged possession of illegal wealth and Pradeep declared property worth 70 lakh against himself.

Pradeep showed more wealth against his wife and also identified her as a fish trader. In the 2017-18 fiscal year, nearly 4 crore taka worth property was shown against her, the documents found.

The ACC found property worth 15 lakh to 20 lakh taka in its own investigation and a total of about 3 crore taka.

Pradeep Kumar Das hit the media headlines after killing retired Army major Sinha Md Rashed Khan by inspector Liakat Ali on July 30, who was at that time serving at Baharchora police post.

Sharmin Rahman, sister of Sinha, filed a murder case against seven people including OC Pradeep. Pradeep and several other police personnel were suspended later and were taken to police custody.
