Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Tuesday said the government is firmly committed in providing all kinds of security for expatriates after returning home.

Kamal made the statement during a meeting with the Chairperson of the Center for Non-Resident Bangladeshis (NRB) Sekil Chowdhury and the visiting Croydon City Mayor Sherwan Chowdhury, at the ministry in the capital.

"There is a standing order for law enforcement to monitor movement of expatriates, residents, or protection of their property," the minister said.

He also said in case of any untoward situation, expatriates who are on vacation or visiting their family members in the country can contact the Expatriate Welfare Desk.

The minister also added that the expatriates also can call 999 and meet police officials if needed.

"Necessary steps will be taken giving priority to their complaints ensuring their security," he added.

During the meeting, NRB chairperson drew the attention of the home minister recalling that more than 22 billion remittances were sent annually by expatriates and non-resident Bangladeshis during the Corona Challenge.

However, harassment of expatriates did not stop even during the epidemic.

"From the airport to their residence, expatriates suffer in many ways," Sekil added.

Akhtar Hossain, senior secretary of the public security department of the home ministry, was present at the meeting.
