Social media platforms, including Facebook and WhatsApp, were unblocked on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), all social media platforms have been unblocked after 2pm on Wednesday, reports BSS.

It may take 24 to 48 hours to resume full-fledged services, it said.

The social media platforms were unblocked hours after State Minister for Post, Telecommunication, and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak disclosed the decision following a meeting with officials of the social media platforms at Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Bhaban.

TikTok officials physically joined the meeting at the BTRC Bhaban while officials of Meta's platforms took part in the event virtually from Singapore.

After the meeting, Palak said these platforms will resume facilitating the business of e-commerce and f-commerce sites.
