The government has decided not to allow factories to open during the ongoing lockdown that will continue till August 5.
The decision was taken at a high-level Cabinet meeting at Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan briefed the media regarding the matter after the meeting.
“Due to a rapid surge in Covid-19 cases, we cannot accept the request of factory owners to allow production amid the ongoing strict lockdown,” he said.
He also said that there was no discussion for a lockdown extension at the meeting.
The current restrictions came into force on July 23 and will continue till August 5 midnight.
This meeting was held to find a way to halt the spread of Covid-19.
In the meeting presided by the home minister, the Cabinet decided to begin vaccination of rural people through Union Parishad from August 7. People will be able to receive vaccine shots by showing their national identity cards (NID).
