My boy did not smoke cigarettes, he could not even stand the smell. How could he take drugs? How are any of these things believable?

These are the words of Kazi Nuruddin Rana, a grieving father who dearly misses his son Fardin Noor Parash. He made the remarks while speaking to The Business Post after a human chain at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) campus on Monday.

The body of Fardin, a student of BUET, was found floating on the River Shitalakhya behind Laxminarayn Cotton Mills at Siddhirganj three days after he went missing.

In the week since Fardin's body was discovered, several details and speculations came up in local media, including Fardin's supposed drug addiction.

Referring to the locations revealed by the police based on data analysis of Fardin's mobile phone and other means of investigation, his father said, "Fardin went from Rampura to old Dhaka, then Jatrabari, and finally to Narayanganj's Chanpara.

“Is that enough to say my son was crazy about narcotics? Why would he take such a roundabout route to Chanpara instead of taking the easy route through Meradia?"

Vehemently protesting the notion that his son was a narcotics user, he said, "I believe that he may have been taken there against his will or some other way."

Kazi Nuruddin Rana urged that a detailed investigation is needed regarding Fardin's alleged girlfriend Bushra, who is on remand in this case.

"None of us knew about Bushra," he said.

Mentioning he wants to have 100 per cent confidence in the law enforcement forces' investigation to unravel the mystery of the murder, he said, "I want to quickly find out the truth and want the real criminals brought to justice."

At Monday’s human chain in BUET, students said seven days have already passed since Fardin's body was recovered, but the killer has not been identified as yet, and the motive behind the murder is shrouded in mystery.

The students demanded a speedy investigation of Fardin’s murder, and exemplary punishment of the culprits.
