A Dhaka court has fixed February 16 for submission of probe report of a case against Regent Hospital Chairman Mohammad Shahed alias Shahed Karim and four others, filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over misappropriation of 2.71 crore taka of Farmers Bank Ltd in 2015.

Dhaka metropolitan sessions judge KM Imrul Kayesh postponed the date of submission of the report as the investigation officer of police was unable to submit it on January 3 (Sunday).

Earlier on 10 August last year, the same court placed Mohammad Shahed on a seven-day remand in the case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Imrul Kayesh passed the order after investigation officer Shahjahan Miraj, Deputy Assistant Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission, sought a 10-day remand for his interrogation.

On July 27 last year, Shahjahan Miraj filed the case with ACC accusing four people including Shahed. The case statement said the accused embezzled two crore taka of Gulshan branch of Padma Bank Limited abusing power from January 11 to January 21 in 2015.

The other three accused are -- Mahbubul Haque Chisty, of the former audit committee of Farmers Bank Ltd (now Padma Bank Ltd), his son Rashedul Haque Chisty, and Regent Hospital Managing Director Ibrahim Khalil.

On July 15 last year, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Regent Hospital Chairman Mohammad Shahed from Shakhra Komorpur border in Debhata upazila of Satkhira district on charge of issuing fake Covid-19 certificates.

Earlier, law enforcers raided the Mirpur and Uttara branches of Regent Hospital on July 6 last year on a charge of issuing fake Covid-19 certificates and charging the admitted patients exorbitant fees. The Regent Group head office along with both the hospitals was sealed off and 16 people, including the chairman, were sued on charge of issuing fake coronavirus test reports.

On September 28, 2020, a Dhaka court sentenced Mohammad Shahed to lifetime imprisonment in an arms case.
