The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Standing Committee on Press, Media, and Cultural Affairs will work to resolve the existing problems in the print and electronic media.

Director-in-Charge of the committee Dr Kazi Ertaza Hassan took this initiative at the first meeting of the Committee held at FBCCI office in the capital on Thursday.

Earlier in the meeting, FBCCI Senior Vice President Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu said that the media has been playing a pivotal role in the country’s socio-economic development.

However, the sector is suffering from various problems, especially the price of the newsprint is a big issue for newspapers.

Therefore, the senior vice president has urged the committee to identify the problems and potentials and come up with recommendations, said a press release.

Babu also announced plans to honour businessmen who fought in the liberation war and sought assistance from the standing committee in this regard.

FBCCI Vice-President Md Amin Helaly said that the development of media is also important to continue the progress of the country.

He, therefore, assured that FBCCI will provide all possible assistance in resolving the crisis in print and electronic media.

Dr Kazi Ertaza Hassan said the price hike of paper and ink is the biggest challenge for newspapers.

The rise of online portals shrinks the advertisement market for printed ones, putting the owners in an extra challenge. However, he assured to take initiative to resolve these crises.

Dr Hassan also announced plans to produce a documentary on expatriate freedom fighters and personalities who contributed to the liberation war in honor of the late renowned journalist and writer Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury.

At the same time, he called upon everyone, inspired by patriotism, to work unitedly for building Bangabandhu's Sonar Bangla under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The meeting was chaired by the chairman of the committee HR Delwar Hossain Raja.

FBCCI directors Syed Moazzem Hossain, Bijoy Kumar Kejriwal, Harun or Rashid and Secretary General Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque were also present at the meeting.
