The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Bangladesh Police arrested a female college student on August 26 from Badda on suspicion of militancy affiliation.
Md Asaduzzaman, chief of the CCTC unit confirmed the matter at a press conference held at the media centre of DMP on Sunday.
Asaduzzaman said that the arrestee identified as Jobaida Siddiqua Nabila, 19, was involved with Ansar al-Islam, affiliated with Al-Qaeda militant organization.
She is now on remand under the CTTC team.
Jobaida’s father is a teacher, a resident of Bhola's Lalmohan Upazila.
According to the police, Jobaida said on primary interrogation that she opened a fake Facebook account under a pseudonym in the early 2020s, hiding her real name and identity.
Then, she found Ansar al-Islam's official Facebook page — ‘Titumir Media’ and joined the page and started reading various extremist videos, audios and articles of Ansar al-Islam.
In the meantime, she contacted the admin of the page and got a link to the official website of Ansar al-Islam and started accessing the official website.
Then she continued to practice extremist ideology herself strictly. Chose online media platforms to spread this ideology widely among all.
